Amy Arline Baker, 43, of Boca Raton, faces one count of aggravated battery causing bodily harm or disability and two counts of child neglect without great bodily harm following an altercation that occurred Saturday evening on northbound Interstate 95 in Broward County. Florida Highway Patrol troopers responded to a report of a domestic incident near Hillsboro Boulevard in Deerfield Beach around 8:15 p.m., after dispatchers in Lake Worth alerted authorities to the situation.
According to arrest reports, the incident unfolded as Baker and her husband were traveling home from a boat party near the Fort Lauderdale Port Marina. As tensions escalated during an argument about relationship problems, Baker allegedly called her husband derogatory names before striking him while he operated the vehicle. The husband told troopers that approximately two minutes after the initial strike, Baker used both hands to grab his face and intentionally bit into his right ear, severing a portion of it.
When troopers located the couple at West Boca Medical Center, the husband was wearing a head bandage with visible blood streaks along the right side of his neck and clothing. He stated he had not physically touched Baker during the altercation and denied her initial 911 claim that he had struck her. Their children, ages 1 and 7, were present in the vehicle throughout the incident, according to the arrest report.
Following the injury, Baker reportedly laughed and did not appear to grasp the severity of her husband’s condition, the report states. Friends of the victim retrieved the children and transported them to safety. Baker was no longer in custody at the Broward County jail as of Tuesday afternoon.
