Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Christopher D. Brayboy, 56, on Monday after discovering six malnourished dogs confined in a wooden cage at a Pompano Beach residence. An anonymous tip led investigators to the home located near Northwest 19th Street and Sixth Avenue, where the animals showed visible signs of neglect.
Brayboy had been evicted from the property on August 7 and claimed the landlord permitted him to return periodically to feed and water the dogs every other day, according to an arrest report. Deputies documented that the animals appeared underweight upon inspection at the scene.
A bond court judge ordered Brayboy held on $21,000 bail following his Tuesday court appearance and instructed him to have no contact with any animals. He faces six counts of aggravated animal cruelty, classified as a third-degree felony under Florida law.
Broward County Animal Control assumed custody of the six dogs following the discovery. Brayboy was booked into the Broward County Main Jail in Fort Lauderdale pending trial.
