Chrissy Metz pushed back against online critics commenting on her physical appearance during a recent podcast interview, expressing frustration with the relentless nature of public commentary about her body. The 45-year-old actress appeared on “The Tamsen Show” to discuss her decision to use a GLP-1 medication and the backlash she continues to receive regardless of her choices. Metz acknowledged that negative commentary persists constantly and does not anticipate it will ever cease.
Metz recounted a recent exchange with a distant family member who congratulated her on “taking control of your weight,” framing excess weight as a longstanding issue within their family. Though the relative herself struggles with weight, Metz said those particular comments affected her less than criticism from strangers online. She emphasized the contradiction between what people express behind screens versus what they would dare say face-to-face.
The actress detailed the contradictory nature of public feedback, noting that critics find fault regardless of her appearance or choices. She listed examples of conflicting commentary, from critiques of her eyebrows to questions about her weight loss efforts. Metz characterized such constant judgment as taxing but manageable through selective disengagement, describing her perseverance as “an act of rebellion.”
Metz attributed her decision to use GLP-1 medication partly to her father’s death from obesity-related complications. Initially skeptical about the treatment, she said the medication helped reduce what she described as constant “food noise” in her mind, suggesting underlying metabolic and hereditary factors. She has partnered with Ro, a telehealth company offering weight-loss medications and other treatments.
