More than 4,000 backpacks filled with essential school supplies reached students across Miami-Dade and Broward counties, plus international communities in Haiti and the Dominican Republic, through Unity on the Bay’s Community Backpack Drive. The organization marked its 21st year running the initiative, which expanded beyond local support to serve underserved populations throughout the region and abroad.

The Saturday event at 17800 Northwest 25th Avenue in Miami Gardens combined practical resource distribution with recreational activities, offering attendees games, refreshments, face painting, and entertainment including the Cha Cha Slide and a bounce house. Participating children received backpacks stocked with pencils, highlighters, folders, binders, crayons, and classroom essentials alongside activities such as Jenga and treats.

Third-grader Bella noted her acquisition of a backpack and umbrella from the drive, while other attendees collected additional items including binders, pencils, and highlighters. The celebratory atmosphere complemented the core mission of equipping families with necessary academic resources before the school year commenced.

Boys & Girls Club of Miami Gardens, Touching Miami with Love in Overtown and Homestead, and Pridelines partnered on the effort. Organizers emphasized that the initiative transcended basic supply provision, instead fostering community encouragement and solidarity as families prepared for academic success.
