Azzi Fudd, the Dallas Wings’ 2024 No. 1 overall selection, will undergo arthroscopic surgery on her right knee next week in Connecticut. The procedure will sideline the guard for the remainder of the season after five consecutive games missed due to persistent soreness in the joint.

Fudd played college basketball at UConn, where she won the 2025 national championship alongside fellow Husky Paige Bueckers. The Wings selected Bueckers as the top overall pick in 2023, making both players consecutive No. 1 choices by Dallas. Bueckers, last year’s WNBA Rookie of the Year, now plays alongside Fudd in the professional ranks.

During her rookie campaign, Fudd appeared in 30 games and averaged 13.1 points per contest. She earned immediate playing time after scoring 24 points in her sixth game off the bench, transitioning to a full-time starter role. Her season-high came in June with 26 points in a victory against the Seattle Storm.

The Wings held Fudd out of an Aug. 7 home matchup against Golden State “out of an abundance of caution,” but the knee soreness continued to plague the young player. Dallas, currently 3-8 in its most recent stretch, remains positioned for a playoff berth as it faces the Indiana Fever on Thursday night at the Dallas Mavericks’ arena.
