Kwanza Jones, an accomplished performer in her own right, leveraged her stage presence during her formal introduction as a principal owner of the San Diego Padres on Monday in California. Jones and her husband, investor Jose E. Feliciano, completed their acquisition of the franchise earlier this month for $3.9 billion, acquiring the team from former owner John Seidler and his family.

During the media gathering, Jones demonstrated her characteristic flair, punctuating remarks about the team’s championship aspirations with emphatic declarations and hand gestures. “We gonna win. We gonna win. We’re going to win, win it all,” she declared to assembled journalists, adding that the franchise hoped success would arrive sooner rather than later.

Jones rose from her seat at one point during the conference to photograph the media contingent with her personal phone, underscoring her engagement with the occasion. The gesture reflected the enthusiasm both new owners brought to their entry into Major League Baseball ownership.

Feliciano serves as co-founder and managing partner of Clearlake Capital, the world’s 12th-largest private equity firm, with a reported net worth of $3.9 billion. His investment portfolio already includes a stake in Chelsea Football Club, which he co-led an investor group to acquire in May 2022.

The Padres enter the stretch run positioned in the third Wild Card slot of the National League with a 71-61 record and 30 regular-season games remaining. San Diego maintains a two-game advantage over the Arizona Diamondbacks in the Wild Card race, providing the new owners an early opportunity to witness postseason play.

The franchise has never won a World Series championship despite two previous appearances, most recently in 1998. Padres supporters have long awaited a championship season, making the new ownership transition a potentially transformative moment for the organization.
