Red Bull Racing’s four-time Formula 1 champion Max Verstappen will participate in an upcoming television spectacle pitting him against 100 go-kart competitors on a specially constructed track at Silverstone, home of the British Grand Prix. The event, titled “Max vs 100,” will air on ESPN and stream on Disney+, showcasing the world-renowned driver in an unconventional racing format.

The announcement arrives following a disappointing weekend for Verstappen, who crashed out of his home race on the opening lap. The stunt represents a departure from typical motorsports programming while highlighting the gulf in skill between elite Formula 1 drivers and amateur racers navigating the same vehicles.

Verstappen, who began his racing career in go-kart competition, emphasized his familiarity with the discipline in a statement. “In go-karts you learn all the basics: starts, defending, overtaking. I’ve done so many years in go-karting that you quite naturally get back into things,” he said, per Motorsport, noting the importance of understanding a kart’s handling characteristics.

The event’s appeal lies partly in questioning not whether Verstappen will overtake the 100 competitors, but rather how quickly he will accomplish the feat. The challenge for participating karters remains balancing the prestige of competing against one of motorsports’ premier talents against the risk of defensive mistakes that could trigger collisions.
