Authorities took a 19-year-old into custody Saturday after locating him concealed in a dormitory closet at Virginia State University. The arrest came in connection with an overnight shooting rampage on campus that resulted in five people sustaining injuries, one of whom was hospitalized in critical condition.
The incident marks the latest in a series of gun violence incidents affecting college campuses across the United States. University officials and law enforcement have not yet released additional details regarding the circumstances surrounding the shooting or a potential motive.
One of the five victims was identified as a student enrolled at the institution. The nature and extent of injuries sustained by the other four wounded individuals have not been fully disclosed by police at this time.
