Courtney Love has opened up about a severe medical crisis that plagued her for years and kept her largely out of the public eye. The 62-year-old frontwoman of Hole disclosed the ordeal in a recent Instagram video, explaining how a mysterious illness derailed her life and forced extended hospitalizations beginning in 2019.

Love described the onset of her condition in stark terms, recounting how her physical health deteriorated dramatically after traveling to England. She said she experienced extreme weight loss, dropping to roughly 100 pounds, and lost all her hair during the illness. Medical professionals informed her that survival was unlikely, yet she ultimately rejected their prognosis and made a full recovery.

The singer did not specify which illness or illnesses she battled during this period. Instead, she emphasized her refusal to accept the dire medical predictions, linking her survival instinct to a lifelong pattern of questioning authority and perceived falsehoods, even when told something was certain.

Love’s new album emerged directly from her recovery journey, with the record serving as a creative outlet while she convalesced in hospitals. She explained in an accompanying caption that she approached the project believing it would be her final work, allowing her to craft the album she had always envisioned.

The upcoming release represents her first album since Hole’s 2010 record “Nobody’s Daughter.” Love indicated her intention to resume touring and performing, describing live music as vital to her physical and mental health as she moves forward.
