Spain’s state-owned broadcaster RTVE has issued a formal apology following allegations that it failed to introduce Israeli hurdler Omri Shiff during live coverage of the European Athletics Championships held this week in Birmingham, England. The incident occurred as camera operators panned across competing athletes lined up at their starting blocks, with anchors providing name and country identifications for each participant.

Video footage of the broadcast shows that when the camera focused on Shiff, both anchors appeared to redirect attention toward a Hungarian athlete, leaving the Israeli competitor without an on-air introduction. An audible pause is evident in the audio as the male anchor resumed commentary once the camera shifted away from Shiff’s position on the track.

RTVE released a statement to The Jewish Chronicle acknowledging the omission and expressing regret that not all athletes received on-screen recognition. The broadcaster attributed the oversight to the operational complexities inherent in covering lengthy athletic events and managing live production logistics, explicitly denying any deliberate political, ideological, or religious motivation.
