Washington D.C. Homicides Drop 43% Following Trump’s National Guard Deployment

A significant decline in homicides across Washington, D.C., is being credited to President Donald Trump’s aggressive crime-reduction initiative launched in August 2025. According to data from the Major Cities Chiefs Association, the capital saw 46 homicides in the first half of 2026, compared to 82 during the same period in 2025—a 43.9% decrease in killings year-over-year.

Trump’s intervention included deploying the National Guard and assuming direct control of the city’s police force as part of what he framed as an effort to “rescue our nation’s capital from crime, bloodshed, bedlam and squalor and worse.” The White House Safe and Beautiful Task Force has executed more than 16,000 arrests targeting murderers, sex offenders, drug traffickers, and other violent offenders, according to spokeswoman Lauren Bis.

Tamara Jachym, whose son Eric was killed in 2025 in an unintended crossfire incident, credited the National Guard presence with tangible improvements in public safety. She told Fox News Digital that residents across all demographics report feeling safer and that the increased law enforcement visibility is making a measurable difference in community security.

Jachym appealed to elected officials opposing National Guard deployments in major cities to consider the perspectives of crime victims and their families. She emphasized that residents living under the threat of violence deserve compassion and protection from their representatives, not sympathy extended toward criminal perpetrators.

Similar results appeared in Memphis, Tennessee, where homicides dropped 43.7% from 119 to 67 following a comparable National Guard deployment in 2025. Jachym remembered her son as a thoughtful, pragmatic individual committed to bridge-building across political divides in pursuit of solutions to America’s challenges.
