The Miami Hurricanes have positioned themselves as contenders heading into the 2026 NCAA Football season, with several key players attracting national attention. Sophomore wide receiver Malachi Toney has earned recognition as one of 39 athletes selected to the 2026 Paul Hornung Award preseason watch list. The Louisville Sports Commission announced the honor on Monday.
Toney’s selection comes on the heels of an exceptional freshman year in which he emerged as one of the nation’s most prolific receivers. The standout wideout set two program records during his debut season, accumulating 109 receptions—the most by any college football player nationwide—and 1,211 receiving yards. He also led the Hurricanes with 10 touchdown receptions.
The Paul Hornung Award recognizes college football’s most versatile player each year. Toney’s freshman accolades included ACC Rookie of the Year, ACC Offensive Rookie of the Year and the Football Writers Association of America’s Offensive Freshman of the Year, along with a first-team All-ACC selection at his position.
