Social Media Influencer Avoids Prison Time After Pleading Guilty to Fraud Charges

A social media influencer accused of maintaining relationships with as many as 75 inmates in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice has escaped incarceration through a guilty plea. Court documents obtained by media outlets reveal that prosecutors alleged Ash Trevino, 37, engaged in romantic relationships with between 50 and 75 prisoners within the state system. Her case centered on charges of welfare fraud and healthcare fraud stemming from financial crimes that led to her arrest last December.

Trevino had built a substantial online following of more than 500,000 across Snapchat and Instagram, with much of her content focused on dating incarcerated men or recently released individuals. She referred to this practice as “inmate hopping,” according to reports. After her initial arrest on outstanding financial crime warrants, she posted bond and was released pending trial but was returned to custody in March for violating bond conditions, which prosecutors said included drinking and purchasing alcohol.

Rather than face trial, Trevino entered a guilty plea to both welfare fraud and healthcare fraud charges last week. She will serve two years of community supervision in lieu of imprisonment, along with 120 hours of community service. The sentence also requires her to complete an anti-theft program, obtain financial counseling, and pay $16,799.95 in restitution to the Texas Health and Human Services Commission.
