The Indiana Fever’s star guard faced a potential one-game suspension after receiving what appeared to be her eighth technical foul of the season during Saturday’s matchup against the Chicago Sky. League officials moved quickly to address the situation, rescinding the penalty within hours of the final buzzer.
Clark made incidental contact with a referee in the third quarter while being forced out of bounds, resulting in the initial technical foul call. The Fever ultimately prevailed 90-86, but the penalty threatened to sideline their leading player for Tuesday’s contest against the New York Liberty at a critical juncture in the season.
Clark immediately contested the ruling, stating the contact was purely accidental and emphasizing that no verbal confrontation occurred. She expressed confidence that league officials would review the footage and reverse the decision upon closer examination.
“She said I ran into her,” Clark said of the referee, adding that she had reviewed the tape and found nothing intentional in the interaction. “I hope it gets rescinded. And nothing was said.”
A WNBA spokesman confirmed to The Associated Press that the technical foul had been officially rescinded, clearing Clark to play in the upcoming game against New York.
