The 2025 Los Angeles wildfires devastated thousands of homes across the region, but one family’s Virgin Mary statue emerged from the destruction largely intact. The survival of the religious artifact captured widespread attention online, resonating with many as a symbol of perseverance amid catastrophic loss.

Fox Nation host Abby Hornacek documents the Halpin family’s experience in the concluding episode of her new three-part series “Unexplained Mysteries of Faith.” The program features interviews with Peter Halpin and his wife Jackie from their Altadena home, where they describe how their statue endured the flames and their spontaneous decision to sing hymns around it in the aftermath.

Peter Halpin explained that the family gathered to pray and sing without deliberate planning, viewing the moment as an instinctive response to trauma. He noted that their actions provided comfort during shock and offered hope to others who witnessed their faith in action while processing their own losses.

In a January 2026 interview with Angelus News, Jackie Halpin emphasized how her religious faith sustained her through the emotional devastation. She described drawing strength from her belief system and redemptive suffering, crediting her spiritual practice with enabling her to remain both sorrowful and grateful simultaneously.

Beyond the wildfire narrative, “Unexplained Mysteries of Faith” explores other faith-centered stories across the United States. Hornacek investigates the mysterious spiral staircase at Loretto Chapel in New Mexico and examines the life of St. Frances Cabrini, an Italian-born nun who became America’s first saint and established 67 institutions to serve Italian immigrants despite chronic illness.

The series is available exclusively on Fox Nation, the streaming platform’s subscription service. Hornacek has previously hosted documentary programs including “PARK’D,” which showcases America’s national parks through regional expertise and natural beauty.
