Democratic strategist James Carville said he will exit the party if far-left streamer Hasan Piker gains significant influence within its ranks. Speaking on “The Sunday Briefing,” Carville made clear that either he or Piker would leave the Democratic Party, declaring there is no possibility both will remain members simultaneously.
Piker, a self-identified socialist content creator who backed Democratic Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed, has gained prominence as democratic socialists achieve electoral success across the nation. The streamer faced backlash in 2019 after saying “America deserved 9/11” on stream, later claiming he was critiquing U.S. foreign policy rather than endorsing the terrorist attacks.
Carville reiterated his position to Fox News, asserting with certainty that he and Piker cannot coexist within the same political party. He suggested the party’s direction poses existential questions, warning that democratic socialists are harming the Democratic brand and that many far-left candidates lack awareness of their unpopularity among voters.
Piker recently endorsed Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., for the 2028 Democratic presidential nomination and asserted there is “0% chance” the party’s nominee will support Israel. His comments follow Democratic polling showing eroded support for Israel among party members.
Carville’s warnings come as the Democratic National Committee confronts internal strains, with Chair Ken Martin managing substantial debt. Several Democratic Socialists of America-endorsed candidates have won primary races nationwide, intensifying debate over the party’s ideological trajectory.
