Miami Gardens Community Wellness Event Delivers Food, Health Services to 150 Families

Approximately 150 families in Miami Gardens accessed free food staples and preventive health screenings Saturday during a wellness initiative hosted by Urban Health Partnerships at Rolling Oaks Park. The event coincided with preparations for the upcoming school year and featured nonperishable grocery items including bread, beans and pasta, along with complimentary medical evaluations for diabetes and heart disease risk factors.

The gathering marked the 15th consecutive year that Urban Health Partnerships has served the Miami Gardens community with integrated health and social services. Programming expanded beyond traditional aid distribution to include community yoga sessions, a neighborhood resource fair, family recreational activities and a walking audit designed to evaluate street safety and infrastructure improvements.

The walking audit component brought together residents, elected officials and community stakeholders to assess neighborhood accessibility and identify areas requiring enhanced safety measures. Andrea Iglesias, chief executive and executive director of Urban Health Partnerships, emphasized the dual approach of addressing immediate food insecurity while advocating for long-term neighborhood improvements such as expanded green trails and community gathering spaces.

Event organizers framed the initiative as an effort to tackle both urgent subsistence needs and systemic barriers to healthy living conditions. Participants gathered recommendations throughout the day intended to inform future city advocacy efforts and infrastructure development projects benefiting the broader Miami Gardens community.
