The Trump administration cited the 2026 FIFA World Cup as a major accomplishment, pointing to unprecedented attendance figures and security measures that defined the continental tournament. More than 6.5 million spectators attended matches across 16 host cities spanning the United States, Mexico, and Canada, nearly doubling the previous World Cup attendance record. Eleven of those host cities were located within the United States, with stadiums operating at 99.7% capacity throughout the competition.
Beyond stadium attendance, FIFA Fan Festivals across the host cities attracted an additional 7.7 million visitors, while the tournament generated more than 20 billion video views worldwide. Fans representing more than 150 nations experienced what administration officials characterized as distinctive American hospitality during the monthlong event. The tournament’s economic footprint extended to local economies, with Philadelphia alone projecting $770 million in economic impact and Seattle’s Pioneer Square reporting retail sales increases as high as 10 times average levels.
Security operations for the World Cup involved substantial federal investment and coordination. The government allocated $625 million to support local law enforcement agencies and deployed an additional $500 million in counter-drone technology across host cities. Federal coordination teams worked alongside state and local officials to establish real-time information-sharing systems, resulting in what officials described as zero major security incidents throughout the tournament.
Administration representatives framed the tournament’s conclusion as establishing infrastructure and capabilities that would benefit future major events hosted by the United States. The coordination networks and security protocols developed during the World Cup, they argued, would inform the planning and execution of subsequent international competitions, including upcoming Olympic Games.
