Miami-Dade Elementary School Teacher Arrested on Domestic Violence Charges

Authorities in Miami-Dade County arrested a first-grade educator Sunday in connection with a domestic violence altercation involving her romantic partner of approximately one year. Ada Caballero, 44, of Homestead, faces charges including armed robbery with a deadly weapon, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and battery, according to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office arrest report.

St. John’s Episcopal School in Homestead lists Caballero on its website as an experienced educator with more than a decade in the field. The school’s description characterizes her as someone devoted to teaching and nurturing young minds with compassion, though circumstances from Saturday’s incident paint a sharply different picture.

The altercation began when Caballero and her boyfriend engaged in a dispute and he initiated a cellphone recording. Caballero allegedly grabbed him by the shirt and scratched his chest while attempting to seize the phone from his hands, deputies reported. Following a brief struggle, she successfully took possession of the device.

When the victim attempted to restrain Caballero through a bear hug to prevent further aggression, she withdrew a knife and made a slashing motion that missed its mark, according to the arrest report. The victim pushed her away, causing both the phone and blade to fall to the ground during an ensuing scuffle.

The victim ultimately recovered his phone and contacted emergency services. Caballero declined to cooperate with detectives and exercised her right to remain silent. She remains incarcerated at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a $6,000 bond as of Tuesday morning.
