A decade after conducting what would become one of his final interviews with Dolly Parton on August 23, 2016, FOX & Friends host Steve Doocy reflected on the country music icon’s character and work ethic. During a pre-show moment in New York City, Doocy asked the legendary performer for a selfie, only to have her respond with characteristic humility about her prominence in the entertainment world.

Throughout his tenure at FOX & Friends, Doocy interviewed Parton approximately six times, experiences that highlighted her exceptional reliability and preparation. Unlike many guests who arrive minutes before airtime or occasionally miss their scheduled slots, Parton demonstrated consistent professionalism and punctuality, arriving ready to perform her craft at a moment’s notice.

The performer’s on-camera presence transformed instantly when recording began, Doocy recalled, describing her as funny, sharp, compassionate and intellectually engaged. Her ability to deliver thoughtful responses to serious questions while seamlessly pivoting to unexpected humor created compelling television that never felt scripted or artificial to viewers.

Beyond the rhinestones and signature styling lay a shrewd entrepreneur who built not just a career but a comprehensive business empire, according to Doocy’s assessment. Parton’s understanding of audience expectations, brand identity and human connection enabled her sustained success while maintaining a grounded, approachable demeanor despite extraordinary fame.

Doocy also recalled interviewing Parton and novelist James Patterson about their collaborative novel “Run, Rose, Run,” and later learning that Patterson had received a signed guitar from Parton as a birthday gift. A 2014 Ice Bucket Challenge connection linked Doocy with Parton and Garth Brooks when country legend Kenny Rogers nominated them for participation.

Parton’s genuine kindness extended equally whether cameras were active or inactive, Doocy emphasized, describing her as fundamentally unchanged by her legendary status. Her philanthropic efforts distributing millions of books to children and her ability to remain humble about her origins demonstrated values that transcended entertainment industry conventions.
