The Harris County Sheriff’s Office in Texas announced Monday that its investigation into the death of Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Ed Oliver’s 1-year-old son has concluded with no criminal findings. The case is now closed, authorities said, nearly a week after the child’s death on June 28 became public through a statement from Bills General Manager Brandon Beane.

The boy, who was days away from turning two, was discovered unresponsive in a swimming pool at a residential property in a community north of Houston. Emergency responders transported him to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival. Detectives conducted a thorough investigation before reaching their determination.

“The incident was thoroughly investigated by detectives, and their findings were no criminal findings. The case is now closed,” the police statement said.

Oliver, 28, requested privacy and prayers as he grieves his son, who shared his father’s name. Bills quarterback Josh Allen praised Oliver’s resilience during the team’s 31-7 preseason victory over Cleveland on Saturday, saying his teammate has handled the tragedy with remarkable strength despite the unimaginable circumstances.

The first-round draft pick from 2019 reported to training camp as scheduled and started in Buffalo’s season-opening preseason game against Carolina, a 29-14 win. He has since missed practice due to an unspecified injury.
