Emergency responders in Margate rushed to a sidewalk near 7900 Northwest 1st Street on Sunday afternoon after receiving reports of two people struck by lightning. The incident occurred around 2:30 p.m., prompting a swift response from Margate Police and Margate Fire Rescue to the scene.
The victims were identified as Kenya Glasgow, 40, and her 2-year-old son. Medical personnel immediately initiated life-saving measures, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation, while preparing both individuals for transport to area hospitals.
Glasgow was transported by Margate Fire Rescue to North Broward Medical Center in Deerfield Beach, while her son was taken to Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale under police escort. Despite aggressive medical intervention by hospital staff, both the mother and child succumbed to their injuries shortly after arrival.
The Margate Police Department is continuing its investigation into the lightning strike. Police officials extended their sympathies to the family members and others mourning the loss of the two victims.
