An 80-year-old Dolly Parton was unable to attend the Friday opening of Dollywood’s new NightFlight Expedition roller coaster in person after her Nashville physician instructed her to remain home due to persistent health complications. The country music legend instead participated in the Tennessee theme park celebration via video feed, addressing attendees while wearing fairy wings from her residence in Nashville.
“I’m supposed to be there in person, like we planned,” Parton said during her virtual appearance. She attributed her absence to ongoing medical issues that occasionally cause dizziness and dehydration, explaining that her doctor had directed her against traveling for the week.
The “9 to 5” performer disclosed her health struggles to fans, emphasizing her commitment to keeping them informed about developments in her personal life. She acknowledged that her physician had advised against the journey, noting that she respects medical guidance when it comes to her well-being.
Parton’s current health setbacks follow her May announcement canceling a planned Las Vegas residency that had already been rescheduled from 2025 to September 2026. At that time, she revealed she was responding well to medications and treatments while working toward recovery, though certain medical regimens have left her feeling lightheaded.
The entertainer has previously referenced kidney stone complications and immune and digestive system problems requiring medical attention. She has maintained optimism about her condition, stating that all her ailments are treatable and that her doctors expect a full recovery.
