Arizona Cardinals head coach Mike LaFleur announced Saturday that running back Jeremiyah Love, the team’s No. 3 overall selection in the 2026 NFL Draft, will remain inactive for at least the next week while recovering from an ankle injury. Love sustained the injury during Thursday’s preseason matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders but initially appeared unaffected by the setback.
The situation deteriorated when Love reported to the facility Friday morning displaying considerable soreness, prompting the coaching staff to adopt a cautious approach. LaFleur emphasized the team’s commitment to allowing sufficient healing time, noting that Love’s condition proved more severe than initially assessed immediately following the game.
LaFleur declined to speculate on Love’s availability for the regular season’s opening week, choosing instead to focus on the team’s Saturday practice schedule in Tempe. The coach confirmed Love will not participate in the Cardinals’ second preseason contest against the Dallas Cowboys next Saturday, with the team planning to reevaluate his status the following week.
During the first preseason game, Love contributed 11 rushing attempts for 58 yards and three receptions for 14 yards. With Love unavailable, Tyler Allgeier will assume the primary running back role, supported by Bam Knight and Corey Kiner in backup positions.
The Cardinals face additional depth concerns at the position, as veteran James Conner has not yet participated in 11-on-11 drills while recuperating from a right foot injury that caused him to miss 14 games last season. The organization also suffered a significant blow when second-round offensive lineman Chase Bisontis tore the MCL in his left knee during the same preseason game, requiring surgery and likely sidelining him for an extended period or the entire season.
