President Donald Trump issued a stark warning to Iran on Tuesday, declaring that the nation faces significant military consequences should ongoing nuclear negotiations between Washington and Tehran break down. During an interview with Fox News, Trump stated that Iranian officials understand the severity of the situation and the potential ramifications of withdrawing from talks.
The president reiterated that military intervention remains a viable option if diplomatic efforts prove unsuccessful. Trump indicated that while forceful action has been prepared, he hopes negotiations will eliminate the need for such measures, emphasizing that Iran cannot be permitted to develop nuclear weapons.
Trump’s remarks followed his decision last week to postpone a planned military operation against Iran—which he characterized as the most substantial since World War II—after Iran and regional partners requested additional time for negotiation. The discussions center on reopening the Strait of Hormuz and constraining Iran’s nuclear capabilities.
Despite Iran’s public denial of direct talks with the United States, Trump described Tuesday’s negotiations as productive. Iranian officials maintain that discussions are occurring through Omani mediators rather than through direct channels. The Associated Press reported that Iranian and Omani officials have achieved substantial progress toward a potential agreement.
Trump dismissed Iranian denials as misleading but suggested that concrete outcomes matter more than public positioning. When asked about his timeline for abandoning negotiations, he indicated he remains patient and willing to continue discussions without rushing to withdraw.
