The medical emergency occurred in February when Bosh awoke to find himself covered in blood, prompting immediate hospitalization for seven days. His candid account underscores the serious nature of the condition that forced him from professional basketball.

In an interview with Hoops Hype, Bosh emphasized the critical importance of medication and lifestyle management for those dealing with blood clots. He described his experience bluntly, saying he “almost dropped dead pretty much and came back to life.” Bosh stressed that despite believing he had moved past such health crises, the condition demands constant vigilance and adherence to medical regimens for life.

Bosh directed his advice toward San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama, whose 2024-25 season ended due to a blood clot diagnosis. The veteran cautioned Wembanyama that even a single recurring episode could prove career-threatening, noting that his own second occurrence in 2016 ultimately ended his playing days with the Miami Heat, where he spent six of his 13 NBA seasons.

A pulmonary embolism develops when a blood clot dislodges and travels to the lungs, a potentially life-threatening condition. Bosh’s initial blood clot incident occurred in 2015 when he dismissed chest pain as a rib injury before medical testing revealed the serious diagnosis.
