A 59-year-old Miami resident faces felony charges after authorities say she administered cosmetic injections without proper medical credentials. The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office arrested Luisa Arteaga-Villalina on Monday afternoon at her residence in the Edgewater neighborhood following an undercover sting operation.
The medical crimes unit launched its investigation after receiving an anonymous complaint from the Florida Department of Health alleging unlicensed medical practice. Two undercover detectives arranged a cosmetic procedure appointment through social media, during which Arteaga-Villalina allegedly quoted $300 for 20 units of Botox, according to the arrest report.
Law enforcement moved to arrest the suspect at 1:50 p.m. Monday as she prepared to begin the procedure. She was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center shortly after 6 p.m. the same day.
Arteaga-Villalina was charged with practicing a health care profession without a valid license, classified as a third-degree felony under Florida law. Bond was set at $5,000. Immigration and Customs Enforcement also placed a hold on the Venezuela-born suspect pending potential deportation proceedings.
