Boy George Exits Record Label and West End Show Over Pro-Israel Song Release

The 65-year-old musician has ended his relationship with his record label BGP and withdrawn from a West End theatrical role, citing his commitment to releasing a pro-Israel musical track despite mounting public opposition. Boy George announced the split from label executive Tony Pontius after the executive declined to support the release of “We Will Dance Again,” an AI-generated reggae composition defending Israel’s military operations.

Boy George attributed his decisions to his Buddhist faith, stating that spiritual principles guided him through the professional fallout. In a post on X, he emphasized that standing by his convictions meant accepting personal consequences, noting that supporting his Jewish friends had cost him relationships with others in his circle.

The three-minute song, which garnered over 5 million views on X before becoming unavailable on streaming platforms, contains lyrics addressing accusations of genocide and criticizing what George characterizes as selective media coverage. The track was released shortly before the artist withdrew from his scheduled role as King Herod in the London Palladium production of “Jesus Christ Superstar,” which was set to begin August 3.

Manager Paul Kemsley confirmed Thursday that George would no longer appear in the West End production, citing the need to prioritize the artist’s well-being while respecting the show’s creative team. Kemsley stated the decision reflected his responsibility to make choices benefiting George while maintaining goodwill with all parties involved.
