Ariana Grande will not perform in an upcoming London production of Stephen Sondheim’s “Sunday in the Park with George” at the Barbican theater in 2027, producers announced Sunday. The 33-year-old singer was set to star opposite “Wicked” co-star Jonathan Bailey in the stage musical before withdrawing from the project.
Empire Street Productions confirmed the exit in a statement expressing support for Grande’s decision. The production will proceed as scheduled to open next summer, with a new cast to be announced in coming months.
A representative for Grande told People magazine the performer intends to step away from public view following the conclusion of her Eternal Sunshine Tour, which ends in London on September 1. The break follows years of intensive media attention surrounding her personal and professional life.
Grande rose to prominence as a child actor on Nickelodeon and launched her music career in 2013 with her debut album “Yours Truly.” She has earned three Grammy Awards and received an Academy Award nomination for supporting actress in the film adaptation of “Wicked.”
