The beluga whale perished at Chicago’s Shedd Aquarium within days of arriving from an Ontario park that had ceased operations, marking a setback in efforts to relocate Canada’s remaining captive whales to a new facility. The animal had been transported as part of a coordinated rescue initiative designed to improve conditions for the country’s last captive belugas.
