Zavion Thomas announced his arrival in professional football with an unforgettable opening play during the Chicago Bears’ preseason matchup against the Tennessee Titans on Saturday. The third-round draft selection from Mississippi State and LSU showcased his elite athleticism when he beat his coverage with a double move, allowing quarterback Tyson Bagent to deliver him the ball in stride for a 97-yard touchdown that opened the contest.
Thomas’s inaugural NFL performance extended well beyond that spectacular first play. The rookie wide receiver finished the preseason game with five receptions for 140 yards and a touchdown, while adding 22 kickoff return yards and 39 punt return yards to his stat line. His effort drew praise from Bagent, who noted the remarkable nature of such a dominant introduction to the league.
The former college standout expressed gratitude for his team’s support and the opportunity to perform at football’s highest level. Chicago’s coaching staff has tabbed Thomas as the second option at receiver behind Kalif Raymond, positioning him in a crowded passing attack that also features Luther Burden III and 2024 first overall pick Caleb Williams.
If Thomas maintains this level of production during the regular season, the Bears’ quarterback will have an additional reliable target alongside the team’s other offensive weapons.
