A Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin parent was issued a citation for disorderly conduct after running onto a youth football field and deliberately tripping a 9-year-old player during a U-10 game last Saturday. The incident occurred as the young athlete was advancing toward the pylon in what appeared to be a scoring opportunity, when the adult extended his leg and brought the runner down. Mount Pleasant police responded and the man cooperated with authorities while admitting fault.
The father of an opposing team player demonstrated what his coach characterized as deliberate intent to injure the child. Channing Schultz, coach of the victimized player’s team, the Case Eagles, told FOX 6 that he had never witnessed such conduct despite decades of youth sports involvement. “I have seen adults fight, I have seen fights at youth events, I have seen stuff happen, but I have never in my life seen a grown man come on the field,” Schultz said, noting the man’s commitment to the harmful action.
The Milwaukee Colts, the opposing team in the matchup, have banned the parent from attending future contests. The Case Eagles are scheduled to play the Colts again in two weeks. Despite the incident, Schultz reported that the 9-year-old player recovered well and demonstrated his resilience and athletic ability by returning to action immediately.
