A candlelight vigil took place Saturday evening to remember Kenya Glasgow and her 2-year-old daughter Kennedi Glasgow, who lost their lives to a lightning strike in Margate. The pair were struck by lightning on Sunday afternoon while their family rushed toward a relative’s home along the 7900 block of Northwest First Street in an effort to escape an approaching rainstorm. Emergency responders worked to revive both victims at the scene, yet neither survived transportation to the hospital.
Kenya’s husband Kameron Glasgow was present at the time of the tragedy and had been holding Kennedi’s twin sister Kensli when the lightning struck. The family of four had been heading to a relative’s house for dinner when the fatal incident occurred, leaving Kameron to witness the sudden loss of his wife and daughter while protecting their other child.
The vigil brought together family members, friends and neighbors of the Glasgow family, who have been profoundly affected by the tragedy in the six days since the incident. Those gathered focused on celebrating the memories and impact that Kenya and Kennedi left with those who knew and loved them, transforming grief into a shared moment of remembrance for the close-knit Margate community.
