Nevada secured a decisive 12-2 victory over Ohio on Saturday in South Williamsport, Pennsylvania, punching its ticket to the Little League World Series championship game. The win marked a triumphant semifinal performance that drew applause from approximately 20,000 spectators and sets up a matchup against international champion Curaçao on Sunday.
Carsynn Meyer, the first girl to participate in the U.S. championship bracket, delivered a crucial single up the middle with the bases loaded during the second inning, extending Nevada’s advantage to three runs. Her moment at bat drew roaring recognition from the crowd as she contributed a key blow in the dominant offensive display.
Owen Guzman powered Nevada’s attack with three hits and two runs scored while providing solid pitching through 3 2/3 innings. Guzman opened the contest with a triple and later contributed a ground ball single to the middle that scored Michael Guerrero as Nevada seized control early.
Nevada erupted for five runs in the second inning on four singles, two walks and a hit batter, breaking the game wide open. The team finished the fifth inning with 10 runs, triggering the run rule and cementing the blowout victory.
This represents Nevada’s second consecutive finals appearance after a Las Vegas squad won the U.S. championship last year but fell in the championship game. The Henderson-based team will face Curaçao for the title on Sunday, while Ohio will meet Japan in the consolation game at 10 a.m.
