A Jacksonville Beach jury convicted Mario Fernandez Saldana on Wednesday of first-degree murder and solicitation to commit a capital felony in connection with the February 2022 death of Microsoft executive Jared Bridegan, 33. Fernandez Saldana, who is married to Bridegan’s former wife, faced charges stemming from the fatal shooting that occurred after Bridegan stopped his vehicle to remove a tire blocking a dark roadway.
The prosecution presented evidence that the incident was orchestrated as part of an ongoing custody dispute involving Bridegan’s ex-wife, Shanna Gardner, and her husband Fernandez Saldana. According to prosecutors, the pair enlisted Henry Tenon to serve as the shooter in what they characterized as a premeditated attack. Tenon initially entered a guilty plea but subsequently withdrew that admission.
Bridegan’s 2-year-old daughter was present in the vehicle’s back seat during the shooting but remained unharmed. Fernandez Saldana was arrested in March 2023, while Gardner was taken into custody five months later. A judge determined that Gardner and Fernandez Saldana would be tried separately before distinct juries.
