Chicago Sky guard DiJonai Carrington’s anticipated rematch against the Indiana Fever on Sunday failed to deliver the on-court statement she appeared to be telegraphing through social media. Carrington had posted “8/23” on X following a previous encounter with the Fever in which she received a Flagrant 2 ejection for a foul on Sophie Cunningham on August 8, drawing speculation from fans and analysts about what the date might signify.

The guard produced minimal impact in the return contest, recording seven points on 3-of-11 shooting to go with one assist and one block across 18 minutes off the bench. Her plus-minus rating stood at minus-5, a stark contrast to her four-minute stint in the earlier matchup when she scored eight points and logged a plus-6 rating.

Caitlin Clark’s dominant 37-point performance proved far more consequential than Carrington’s cryptic messaging. The Fever guard made 13 of 24 field goal attempts and drained eight 3-pointers, leading Indiana to a decisive 113-90 victory that clinched the team’s playoff berth with a 25-14 record.

Kelsey Mitchell contributed 30 points for the Fever, who currently occupy fifth place in the playoff standings. The Sky’s loss eliminated Chicago from postseason contention entirely, leaving the franchise with a 15-23 record as Portland and Dallas vie for the final playoff spot.
