Body of Missing Massachusetts Woman Found in Woods Days After Police Officer Husband’s Death

Worcester police confirmed Monday that human remains discovered in woodlands near Fairlawn Rehabilitation Hospital are believed to be Karen Solomon, 58, who went missing following the death of her husband, veteran officer Kurt Solomon. Hospital employees reported finding the body at approximately 12:40 p.m., and investigators recovered a handgun in close proximity to the remains, authorities said.

Kurt Solomon, a 31-year officer with the Worcester Police Department, was found dead inside a Wildwood Avenue residence on August 18 after police responded to a report of a person down at approximately 5:28 a.m. His cause and manner of death have not been disclosed. Karen Solomon had been considered a person of interest authorities wanted to question regarding the incident inside the home.

Police had conducted extensive searches of the Coes Pond area adjacent to the rehabilitation facility, including a sweep on August 20. Officers warned the public that Karen Solomon was believed to be armed and dangerous as the search continued across multiple days. Surveillance footage and photographs were released as part of the investigative effort.

The New England Police Benevolent Association memorialized Kurt Solomon’s three decades of service to the Worcester department, describing him as “incredibly dependable” and noting his extraordinary commitment to law enforcement and the community. Officials have disclosed limited details about the circumstances at the residence, citing both the active investigation and domestic violence-related privacy restrictions.
