Far-left Twitch streamer Hasan Piker drew sharp criticism from Rep. Hillary Scholten, D-Mich., on Monday over statements he made regarding American Jewish support for Israel. Scholten characterized Piker’s remarks as “talk of violence” directed at Jewish Michigan state Sen. Jeremy Moss, who is running for Congress.

In her statement, Scholten described Piker as “a hack who thrives on hate, shock and awe because he lacks substance.” She called his comments about violence against American Jews and his specific mention of Moss “unacceptable” and urged political figures across the spectrum to reject such rhetoric.

During an Aug. 20 stream, Piker warned that American Jews supporting Israel could face violent consequences. While discussing Moss’s congressional race, Piker stated: “People don’t f— with Israel any longer. And if Jews in America keep putting this idea out there that they’re singularly invested in Israel, eventually someone will come around and take action not against Israel, mind you, but against American Jews.”

Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed, whom Piker backed and who defeated Rep. Haley Stevens in a recent primary, responded cautiously. While stopping short of directly condemning the streamer, El-Sayed denounced antisemitism and said he stands “against any rhetoric that puts the community at risk.”

The American Jewish Committee joined the condemnation, stating that Piker’s use of Moss’s image placed “a target on the backs of Sen. Moss, Jewish candidates and officeholders, and American Jews alike.” The organization called on public officials who have associated with Piker to either denounce him or be considered complicit.

Moss dismissed an audio clip circulating online that purportedly supported Piker’s claims about his campaign’s focus on Israel. Moss called the recording “a manipulated and unsourced audio” and urged all parties to reject disinformation regardless of its political origin.
