The Denver Nuggets have secured veteran guard DeMar DeRozan on a one-year contract valued at the NBA veteran minimum of $3.9 million, according to a person familiar with the transaction who confirmed the agreement Friday. The move marks DeRozan’s fifth franchise during his 18-year career as the six-time All-Star continues pursuing his first championship title. The deal has not yet been officially announced.

Denver made room for the 37-year-old DeRozan by trading young forward Peyton Watson to the Cleveland Cavaliers as part of a four-team transaction. The 23-year-old Watson, who appeared in a career-high 40 starts last season, posted career-best averages of 14.6 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game.

DeRozan, selected ninth overall by Toronto in 2009, spent his first nine seasons with the Raptors before being traded to San Antonio in the Kawhi Leonard deal that sent Leonard to Toronto, where the Raptors won the 2018-19 championship. The veteran spent three years with the Spurs and three with Chicago before his most recent two seasons with Sacramento, arriving in both cities via sign-and-trade agreements.

Last season, the 37-year-old DeRozan averaged 18.4 points, snapping a 12-year streak of scoring at least 20 points nightly. Since leaving Toronto, DeRozan has made the postseason five times but compiled just two winning seasons overall, with only one playoff appearance during his Chicago tenure.
