A fixed-wing aircraft and helicopter struck each other in midair Wednesday near Carlisle Airport in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, leaving one pilot dead and two Pennsylvania State Police troopers with injuries. Emergency responders rushed to the scene following the collision to assist those involved in the crash.
The circumstances surrounding the midair encounter remain under investigation as authorities work to determine what led to the aircraft coming into contact with one another in proximity to the airport. Officials have not yet released additional details regarding the identities of those involved or the extent of the troopers’ injuries.
The National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration typically investigate aviation accidents of this nature to establish causation and recommend safety improvements. Carlisle Airport operations may be affected pending the outcome of the investigation.
