Nearly two months have passed since Bart Diguglielmo, a 62-year-old Lauderhill resident, was fatally shot during a confrontation over a parking space outside a North Lauderdale Walmart in late June. The Broward Sheriff’s Office confirmed the incident occurred after an argument between Diguglielmo and another woman escalated, leaving him with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. He was transported to a hospital where he subsequently succumbed to his injuries.
Diguglielmo’s daughter, Amanda Diguglielmo, painted a portrait of her father as a devoted family man with deep roots in service. He spent three decades working as an emergency room trauma nurse, served as an Army sergeant, and was a twin brother and father of three who cherished time with his grandchildren. “Everything — being able to call him, have lunch, holidays, everything” is what Amanda said she would miss most about him.
The woman involved in the shooting claimed she acted in self-defense, according to deputies. However, Amanda Diguglielmo and her attorney, Melissa Rodriguez, strongly dispute this characterization of events. Rodriguez stated unequivocally that “this was not a situation of self defense or stand your ground immunity” and declared that “criminal charges should be filed.”
Despite the passage of nearly two months, no arrest has been made in connection with the shooting. Amanda Diguglielmo expressed frustration over the lack of resolution, saying her father’s shooter “ruined two families over a parking spot.” The Broward State Attorney’s Office indicated that prosecutors continue to actively investigate the case as it seeks answers.
