Authorities are investigating after hateful messages directed at Islam appeared as graffiti on a construction banner at the Islamic Center of Mastic-Shirley on Long Island. The offensive markings were discovered at the religious facility’s building site, marking another incident of religiously motivated vandalism in the region.
The incident has drawn concern from community leaders and mosque officials who are working with law enforcement to identify those responsible. Investigators are examining surveillance footage and gathering additional evidence to pursue potential charges related to the vandalism.
The Islamic Center of Mastic-Shirley has served the local Muslim community for years and is currently expanding its facilities.
