Secretary of State Marco Rubio took aim at Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s dietary choices during a Tuesday appearance on “The Katie Miller Podcast,” where he appeared alongside his wife, Jeanette. When host Katie Miller broached Kennedy’s reported regimen centered on red meat and fermented vegetables, Rubio responded with sharp humor, calling the approach “crazy” and questioning its practicality.
Rubio elaborated on his critique, noting that the diet essentially boils down to consuming sauerkraut and meat in unsustainable quantities. He punctuated his remarks by suggesting he had no intention of traveling internationally with coolers of fermented cabbage, calling such an arrangement impractical and absurd.
The conversation took a lighter turn when Jeanette Rubio interjected that her husband regularly consumes sweets and other foods at odds with health-conscious eating. Rather than defend his actual eating habits, Rubio pivoted to praising Pop-Tarts as a remarkable product of American ingenuity, highlighting its distinctive foil packaging as part of its appeal.
Despite his joshing critiques of Kennedy’s dietary philosophy, Rubio affirmed his support for the health secretary’s broader “Make America Healthy Again” initiative. Neither Kennedy’s office nor Mars Inc., which manufactures Pop-Tarts, responded to requests for comment from Fox News Digital.
The appearance comes as Rubio is viewed as a potential 2028 presidential contender to follow President Donald Trump. Recent polling from New Hampshire showed him trailing Vice President JD Vance by only 10 percentage points in a hypothetical matchup for the nomination.
Rubio also addressed a viral internet meme showing him seated on a couch during Trump’s 2025 meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. In a subsequent Fox News appearance, Rubio disclosed his initial displeasure with the photograph, attributing his awkward appearance to the couch’s lack of back support, but acknowledged finding humor in the meme’s subsequent evolution.
