Authorities in Somerset County, New Jersey, are investigating the fatal stabbing of a 46-year-old woman discovered in her Brookside Avenue residence. Alyne Espinal sustained multiple stab wounds to her chest, neck, and thigh before being pronounced dead at the scene following a welfare check.
Police responded to a 911 call just before 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Ignacio Espinal, 55, was taken into custody three days later in West New York and has been charged with first-degree murder, along with third-degree counts of unlawful weapon possession and hindering apprehension.
The Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office noted that the investigation remains ongoing as law enforcement continues interviewing witnesses, examining physical and electronic records, and analyzing forensic findings. Officials emphasized the preliminary nature of charges as the case develops.
The homicide occurred approximately 15 miles from the unsolved June killing of Brooke Hanlon, 35, whose body was discovered in her Morris County home on June 6. Notably, Hanlon’s husband, Conor Hanlon, previously worked for a construction contractor in Somerville, less than a mile from where Espinal was found.
