Miami Man Arrested After Surveillance Video Shows Attack on Disabled Woman in Allapattah

Miami police arrested Charles Anderson on Tuesday after video evidence documented him assaulting his girlfriend of six years in the Allapattah neighborhood. A neighbor’s report of a woman yelling prompted officers to respond to an apartment near Northwest 18 Avenue and 27 Street on July 24, where they discovered the victim with visible injuries to her face and hands.

According to the arrest report, surveillance footage showed Anderson approaching the seated woman, who relies on an assistive walker due to her disability, and striking her repeatedly in the face with closed fists without apparent cause. The victim told officers that Anderson had demanded money for gasoline, which she refused to provide, preceding the violent encounter.

Emergency responders transported the injured woman to Jackson Memorial Hospital for treatment of a laceration beneath her chin requiring stitches. Police took Anderson into custody at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Northwest First Avenue and 20th Street, where he acknowledged the incident, stating he had blacked out during a verbal disagreement before fleeing the scene.

The Miami-Dade corrections department booked Anderson at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center shortly before 6:55 p.m. on Tuesday. He faced charges of aggravated battery with great bodily harm and aggravated abuse to a disabled adult, with bond set at $22,500.
