A golfer in Ohio is recuperating after being struck by lightning while filming himself and companions attempting to move a stuck golf cart during a severe storm last week. The incident occurred Friday on a golf course in the Cincinnati area, leaving the man with injuries to his arm that meteorologists have characterized as non-life-threatening. He described himself as “unbelievably lucky” following the encounter.
Video footage captured the moment of impact, showing the golfer and three other people battling heavy rainfall as they tried to push the golf cart up a grassy slope. The cart had even rolled backward during their efforts before the lightning strike abruptly ended the recording. The golfer, who was standing beneath a tree while holding an umbrella at the time, made several safety errors that experts warn against during thunderstorms.
Meteorologist Matt Devitt confirmed the golfer sustained the strike on his arm and has since been recovering without severe complications. Devitt emphasized the critical safety guideline for thunderstorm situations: “When thunder roars, go indoors.” He advised against seeking shelter under trees or holding metal objects like umbrellas during electrical storms, and stressed the importance of leaving golf courses when dangerous weather approaches.
