Hallandale Beach police took a 21-year-old man into custody following an incident in which he allegedly used his vehicle as a weapon against a marked patrol car. Mohammad Chehade was arrested after a Saturday evening pursuit that began when an officer spotted a suspicious vehicle near a closed business on the 1700 block of East Hallandale Beach Boulevard around 9:22 p.m.
When the officer approached the vehicle, Chehade shifted into reverse and struck the cruiser before accelerating away from the scene, authorities said. During the ensuing pursuit, police allege Chehade made multiple deliberate attempts to ram the officer’s vehicle, making contact at least one additional time before the chase concluded.
The pursuit ended when Chehade’s vehicle crashed in the 900 block of North Ocean Drive in Hollywood. After initially fleeing on foot, he was apprehended several blocks from the crash site. The police cruiser sustained approximately $5,000 in damage, though the officer was not injured.
Chehade is being held at the Broward Main Jail without bond on charges of aggravated fleeing with injury or damage, aggravated battery on a police officer, and resisting an officer without violence.
