Guinness Confirms Trump’s July 4 Fireworks as Record-Breaking Display

Guinness World Records this week officially recognized the Independence Day fireworks spectacle on Washington’s National Mall as the largest in recorded history, fulfilling President Donald Trump’s earlier assertion that the display would set a global benchmark. The organization confirmed that the July 4, 2026 event featured 840,537 fireworks, orchestrated by Freedom 250 and Pyrotecnico, Inc., with Event Strategies Inc organizing the celebration for the nation’s 250th anniversary.

The 40-minute pyrotechnic display illuminated the National Mall and Potomac River despite weather-related evacuations that preceded the late-night launch just before midnight. Interior Secretary Doug Burgum had previously explained in June that the unprecedented scale required firing operations from multiple locations, including barges positioned throughout the area, rather than concentrating launchers at traditional sites like the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.

The previous world record for largest fireworks display was held by a megachurch’s 2016 New Year’s Eve celebration, which featured 810,904 fireworks, according to reporting. President Trump served as chair of the Freedom 250 initiative, which was structured as a public-private partnership developed months before the event.

Freedom 250 spokesperson Danielle Alvarez characterized the achievement as “a powerful symbol of unity, resilience, and pride” while noting the display surpassed the previous global benchmark. The White House asserted in a statement that no other president had accomplished a comparable feat, citing the record-breaking fireworks display alongside an air show and presidential address attended by hundreds of thousands.
