Trump Demands U.S. Attorney Pirro Reconsider Dismissed Lincoln Memorial Vandalism Charges

President Donald Trump on Friday publicly demanded that U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro reconsider her decision to dismiss vandalism charges related to damage at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. Trump shared photographs from a freelance photographer on Truth Social claiming to document defacement at the site, asserting that witnesses had observed the alleged misconduct firsthand.

Trump’s renewed criticism centered on his belief that Pirro acted hastily in dropping the case against defendant David Hearn, a former Olympic athlete. The president specifically cited Hearn’s connections to ActBlue, a Democratic fundraising platform, and noted that Hearn’s legal representation includes attorney Norm Eisen and the organization CREW, both of whom Trump characterized as politically motivated.

Federal prosecutors had charged Hearn on July 2 with one felony count of destruction of property after U.S. Park Police alleged he damaged the pool’s coating on June 19 by pulling at a loose section despite being told to cease. Initial estimates placed damage at more than $1,000.

Pirro’s office justified the dismissal by stating the Department of the Interior had provided incomplete initial reports and withheld documentation revealing significant pre-existing problems with the pool’s coating installation. Prosecutors determined that new evidence from the DOI indicated the damage resulted from faulty contractor work by Atlantic Industrial Coatings, making it impossible to prove Hearn caused the harm beyond reasonable doubt.

Hearn’s attorneys argued the case should never have been brought, characterizing the prosecution as an abuse of government authority and demanding an apology for the arrest and charges against their client.
