Ukrainian Drones Strike Russian Retailer’s Warehouse Deep in Urals

Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles struck a major warehouse operated by Russia’s largest online retailer Friday in the Ural Mountains region, officials and company representatives confirmed. The facility, located in Yekaterinburg and belonging to Wildberries, caught fire following the assault that targeted the building’s roof with multiple drone impacts. The warehouse stood more than 2,000 kilometers from the border between the two nations, demonstrating the extended reach of Kyiv’s drone operations.

Regional Governor Denis Pasler reported that three drones hit the warehouse structure, while Kremlin representative Artyom Zhoga stated that approximately 800 people were safely evacuated with no casualties reported. Wildberries said most merchandise in the facility survived the attack, marking a contrast to more than a dozen other company depots struck and destroyed during recent weeks of Ukrainian assaults targeting the Russian retail chain.

This strike represents part of a broader campaign by Ukraine to disrupt Russian logistics and civilian morale deep within Russian territory. Earlier this year, Ukrainian forces successfully targeted an oil refinery in western Siberia nearly 2,500 kilometers from the border, underscoring how drone innovation has become central to Kyiv’s defense strategy against a larger adversary over four years into the invasion.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced Friday that drone cooperation agreements have been finalized with nine countries, with negotiations ongoing with 15 additional nations. His administration is simultaneously advancing development of domestically produced anti-ballistic missiles and air defense systems to counter Russian airstrikes that exploit Ukraine’s limited supply of American Patriot interceptors.

Zelenskyy disclosed that a joint European anti-ballistic program involving 10 countries is underway to develop continental air defense capabilities. He stated Ukraine can manufacture the missiles and launchers while international partners supply critical components including radar and sensor systems, positioning the initiative as beneficial for broader European security.

Ukrainian forces in eastern Donetsk region’s heavily fortified “Fortress Belt” remain under sustained pressure as Russian military advances continue despite minimal territorial gains. Regional military administrator Vadym Filashkin reported that over 800 residents, including 91 children, were evacuated from Kramatorsk during the previous 24 hours as part of ongoing civilian protection efforts.

Russia’s Defense Ministry claimed its air defenses destroyed 203 Ukrainian drones between late Thursday and early Friday. Ukrainian air force officials reported Russia launched 147 long-range strike drones during the same period, with attacks striking civilian markets and residential infrastructure across northern regions.

A Russian drone attack on a busy marketplace in Sumy region wounded 10 civilians Friday morning, while additional strikes in the regional capital injured two more people. Russian forces deployed glide bombs and various drone types against residential buildings and infrastructure targets throughout the northern sector of the conflict.
